Wizards Coach Eddie Jordan was conducting his usual pregame chat with reporters prior to last night's game against Cleveland when he was asked about the progress made by third-year forward-center Andray Blatche.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]Blatche just happened to be walking by as Jordan prepared to answer so he raised his voice loud enough for the player to hear.
"First of all, he had to condition himself a little bit better," Jordan said. "That was number one, number two and number three because his conditioning was awful and he's still working on it. Because he has skill for the game, but when you're not in shape, your skill level falls down. Now, that he's in better shape, you can see his skill level and his talent."
Upon hearing his coach, Blatche smiled.
"Right now," Jordan continued, "he's coming along."
Blatche finished with eight points, four rebounds and two blocks in last night's win and is averaging 7.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks this season.
Cleveland Signs Varejao
The Cavaliers won't be without a key piece of their team from last season, because General Manager Danny Ferry yesterday matched the offer sheet forward Anderson Varejao signed with Charlotte yesterday .
The 6-foot-10 Varejao averaged a modest 6.8 points and 6.7 rebounds last season but his energy, hustle and offensive rebounding were important for the Cavaliers as the team advanced to the NBA Finals.
