We thank the young artists who submitted their work to our children's art contest. It was hard to choose among all the excellent illustrations.

The winner and creator of our cover art is Linda Kuo, right, a 9-year-old from Greenbelt, Md. Linda started painting very early in her life, at two or three. She was encouraged by her mother, who is an artist. Linda always sketches before she paints, which explains why there is such a nice balance in her image. She is obviously talented in other ways: She tells us she wants to be a scientist or inventor. In her spare time, she loves to read with her 5-year-old brother, Leo. Her favorite book is "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
