WHEN EASTERN TECH HAS THE BALL: The Mavericks, from Essex in Baltimore County, are a run-first team. They are averaging 37.6 points per game. RBs Derryck Davis (nine rushing TDs), Darian Conners (11 rushing TDs) and Thomas Edwards (11 rushing TDs), along with QB Travis Crane (10 rushing TDs) have combined for nearly 3,400 yards on the ground. River Hill's starting defensive unit has yielded just one touchdown, and the Hawks' 11 shutouts have tied a state single-season record. The Hawks have great tacklers in seniors Zach Martin (136 tackles), Jon Hill and Andrew Donoghue.
WHEN RIVER HILL HAS THE BALL: The Hawks, who are averaging 41.3 points per game, will pound the ball on the ground behind three talented running backs, senior Zach Martin (1,147 yards, 13 rushing TDs), and juniors Michael Campanaro (1,699 yards, 22 rushing TDs) and Malek Redd (1,268 yards, 13 rushing TDs). Coach Brian Van Deusen's misdirection plays and varied formations have been giving opposing defenses fits. Eastern Tech DE Ryan Schlothauer has nine sacks this season, and DT Devon Hardy made 15 tackles last week. The Mavericks have allowed only 59 points this season.
