"You invest so much time, so much energy in these accomplishments, and they really do become a part of you. They're how you view yourself. These accomplishments kind of feed you, and for a lot of people that becomes a major source of self-esteem. [Steve Fossett] did this for so long that it became a part of his life, and it was probably the process of pursuing records that sustained him. A guy like this, you think once he gets a record he's going to rest on it? Unless he set another one, he probably got antsy. So he kept moving, setting other records, because that was the pattern of his life."
