A few NBA coaches have said they are uncomfortable with the idea of wearing a microphone during games, something the league has begun mandating for certain nationally televised broadcasts this season.

Among the coaches who said they would prefer to coach without a microphone are Avery Johnson of the Dallas Mavericks, George Karl of the Denver Nuggets, Scott Skiles of the Chicago Bulls and Pat Riley of the Miami Heat.

However, Wizards Coach Eddie Jordan said he would have no problem wearing one Thursday night when his team plays at Miami in a game that will be carried by TNT.

"What's my favorite line?" said Jordan, a proud Rutgers graduate. "Whatever the commissioner wants us to do, we're going to do. He went to Rutgers so he knows what he's doing. Yeah, I'll wear one."

The microphones are part of new rules aimed at getting fans closer to the action during nationally televised games. Remote-controlled cameras will be used in the locker rooms, selected players will wear microphones also, and coaches can be subjected to interviews during the game.

All recorded sound will be reviewed by an on-site NBA official who will determine what is appropriate to air. Even so, Jordan expressed no reservations about divulging strategy or using colorful language.

"No," he said. "As my daughter and son would say: I don't use trash language. 'That's trash language, Dad.' So no, I wouldn't feel opposed to wearing a mic."
