GETTING THERE: Berkeley Springs is about 90 miles from the Beltway, or about a two-hour drive, depending on traffic. Take Interstate 270 north until you hit Frederick, then take I-70 west to Exit 1B, which will take you south on Route 522 into downtown Berkeley Springs.

WHERE TO STAY: The two rooms at the Sleepy Creek Tree Farm Bed and Breakfast (37 Shades Lane, 866-275-8303, http://www.maggiedot.com/sleepycreektree) include one queen and one twin bed, with a shared bath. Rates start at $70 and include breakfast. Well-behaved pets allowed. Christmas trees run $30 to $45.

WHERE TO EAT: The Oasis Cafe (51 Independence St., 304-258-9200) inside Awakening Health Center serves lunch -- vegetarian, mostly organic fare -- Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., plus breakfast on weekends. Sandwiches start at $4.29, salads from $3.09. Lot 12 Public House (117 Warren St., 304-258-6264) features hearty but elegant food by Damian Heath and an interesting wine list. Entrees $19 to $32.

WHERE TO SPA: The Bath House (21 Fairfax St., 800-431-4698, http://www.bathhouse.com) offers nearly every treatment imaginable. Packages start at $140.
