The Redskins scored the first touchdown of the game when backup running back Ladell Betts took a handoff straight up the middle and scored from 14 yards to put Washington up 13-0. Earlier in the quarter, Suisham kicked a 31-yard field goal after a drive stalled at the Giants 13. New York's first points came on a 35-yard Lawrence Tynes field goal with a little over a minute to go, on a drive that continued when Redskins safety LaRon Landry was called for an unsportsmanlike conduct taunting penalty after breaking up a pass intended for Plaxico Burress. Suisham closed the half with a 28-yard field goal as time expired.
