Sony will sell a special edition of its PlayStation 3 console in Japan in January to mark the launch of the "Devil May Cry 4" computer game.
The console will come bundled with the software and a related high-definition computer graphics movie on Blu-ray Disc, and cost ?47,800 (US$422). It will be available from Jan. 31 and gamers will have two versions to choose from: one with a "ceramic white" console and the other with a "clear black" console.
Sony didn't announce plans to sell the bundle outside of Japan.
Sony has been struggling to increase sales of the PlayStation 3, which has ranked an almost constant second to Nintendo's Wii since the beginning of the year. In the week from Dec. 3 to Dec. 9 there were 38,123 PlayStation 3 consoles sold in Japan, according to estimates from Media Create. During the same period 115,057 Wii consoles were sold, said the company. Media Create gets point-of-sales system data from hundreds of retailers in Japan and uses that to estimate nationwide sales.
"Devil May Cry 4," from Capcom, will launch first in Japan. It will be launched in the U.S., Europe and Australia in February.
