Is there a best time to go to Peru? Like almost high season but with less expensive flights?

According to the Peru Export and Tourism Promotion Board, the country has two seasons: The heat swoops in around mid-November and stays through late March, and the cold weather runs from late April to mid-November. The rainy season coincides with the warm season in the highlands and jungle, while the coast sees few raindrops. For travelers, Jim Lutz, founder and owner of Vaya Adventures (800-342-1796, http://www.vayaadventures.com), which specializes in South and Central America, says the best month to visit is May, after the rains and before the high season. During this time, there are fewer crowds and comfortable temps (60s and 70s in the Andes, for example). The country does not have seasonal rates, so you will find minimal if any drops in airfare and hotel prices. -- Andrea Sachs
