Captain's Chair

XM Radio

Twenty-four hours a day, a production engineer sits in the captain's chair and monitors XM Radio's 170 channels, fed by four satellites and 800 ground repeaters. The engineer can press a button on either side of his chair and listen to any of the channels.

Visitors as varied as Janet Jackson and Mike Huckabee have visited the company in Northeast Washington.

The tour typically takes people by a display of satellite radios -- including ones that allow listeners to track weather and traffic in real time.
