Vick Home In Virginia For Sale
The white brick home in Surry, Va., that housed former NFL star Michael Vick's dogfighting operation has been listed for sale for $1.1 million.
The listing bills the 15-acre country estate in rural southeastern Virginia as "the famous Michael Vick house."
The house failed to sell during an auction in mid-December, disappointing a real estate developer who has about $500,000 tied up in the property. At the time, Wilbur Ray Todd Jr. rejected the only serious bid -- $747,000, the property's assessed value for real estate tax purposes.
Vick is serving a 23-month sentence for a dogfighting conspiracy. The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback and three co-defendants raised pit bulls and trained them for fighting in the area behind the 4,600-square-foot house. Several dogs that did not perform well in test fights were executed.
¿ SOCCER: Landon Donovan heads 26 players picked for a U.S. national soccer team training camp ahead of a Jan. 19 exhibition game against Sweden in Carson, Calif.
Houston forward Brian Ching, who strained a calf in MLS's Western Conference final, was omitted from the roster along with Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein, who also is injured.
After the game against Sweden, more Europe-based players will join the national team for a Feb. 6 exhibition match against Mexico in Houston. The U.S. team is preparing for the start of World Cup qualifying -- after a first-round bye, the Americans play Barbados or Dominica in a home-and-home series that starts June 14-15 and ends June 21-22.
D.C. United's Zach Wells is among the goaltenders on the roster, and former University of Maryland star Taylor Twellman of the New England Revolution is among the forwards.
¿ BASEBALL: Roger Clemens is still welcome at a convention of Texas high school baseball coaches.
The group reconsidered its invitation after Clemens was mentioned prominently in last month's Mitchell report on steroids. Yesterday the coaches said they found no reason to prevent the star pitcher from addressing their annual meeting next month.
