¿ A Jan. 3 Metro item incorrectly said that construction of the new Richard Montgomery High School marked the first time in Montgomery County that a school remained open while a new one was built on the existing campus. That occurred previously at Walt Whitman High School. The item also incorrectly said that the school opened early; it opened late.

¿ A Dec. 30 Style & Arts column incorrectly said that the recording industry "maintains that it is illegal for someone who has legally purchased a CD to transfer that music into his computer." In a copyright-infringement lawsuit, the industry's lawyer argued that the actions of an Arizona man, the defendant, were illegal because the songs were located in a "shared folder" on his computer for distribution on a peer-to-peer network.

¿ A Dec. 26 Style article about the first map to use the name "America" incorrectly said that Christopher Columbus was the first European explorer to reach the Americas. Viking settlers reached the Americas before Columbus.
