No team in the NBA has more ties to the Washington area than the Seattle SuperSonics. In fact, the Sonics might as well be called the "D.C. All Stars" or maybe the "Prince George's County SuperSonics."

Rookie forward Kevin Durant, the No. 1 overall pick in June's NBA draft, played at Montrose Christian in Rockville before heading to the University of Texas for one season. Rookie forward Jeff Green played high school ball at Northwestern in Hyattsville and starred at Georgetown for three seasons.

Guard Delonte West played at Eleanor Roosevelt in Greenbelt and forward Chris Wilcox will always be loved by University of Maryland fans because he helped the Terrapins win the national title as a sophomore. Wilcox, who dislocated a finger in Thursday's loss to Phoenix, will not play today.

Even forward Wally Szczerbiak has a local tie: His father, Walt, starred at George Washington in the early 1970s.

The Sonics will make their only appearance at Verizon Center today for an afternoon matinee. Because Seattle last played on Thursday night, Coach P.J. Carlesimo allowed Durant, Green and West some extra time at home with friends and family.

"I like how Coach Carlesimo did that for us," Durant told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. "It makes the weekend special and it's been awhile since I've been home."

UP NEXT Sunday vs. Seattle 1 p.m. Comcast SportsNet, WTEM-980 Tuesday vs. Houston 7 p.m. Comcast SportsNet, WTEM-980
