Third Quarter

Sunday, January 6, 2008

Both teams failed to score on their first possession of the third period, but the Seahawks took over at their 33-yard line and embarked on an eight-play drive lasting 4 minutes 24 seconds.

Hasselbeck completed consecutive passes for seven and six yards. Then on second and 10 from the Seattle 46, Hasselbeck connected with Hackett on a 35-yard pass. Hackett, who was starting as the No. 1 wide receiver in place of inactive former Super Bowl MVP Deion Branch, got behind Shawn Springs on the play and put Seattle at the Redskins 19.

From there the Seahawks stalled and had to settle for a 33-yard field goal by Brown.

The Redskins started the next possession at their own 16 and began going without a huddle after three plays. The offense began clicking at that point, advancing from the Washington 42 to the Seahawks 27, where the Redskins faced fourth down and one.

The Redskins elected to go for it, and they went with a play-action pass down the right sideline to Mike Sellers. The ball fell incomplete, but free safety Brian Russell was called for pass interference, and the Redskins got the ball at the Seattle 11.

Washington ran two plays to the 7 before the quarter expired.
