Second Quarter

Sunday, January 6, 2008

Washington began the second period at its 13-yard line after starting with the ball at its 2 with 10 seconds left in the first. The Redskins faced third down and 13 early in the possession, but quarterback Todd Collins completed a 15-yard pass to Randle El to extend the drive.

Collins completed a second straight pass to Randle El, this one covering seven yards, and Portis ran for seven yards for another first down. After a pass to Chris Cooley for minus-two yards and an incomplete throw, the Redskins faced third and 12 from their 37.

As the play clock wound down, Collins signaled for a timeout while in shotgun formation. The snap came to Collins as he turned away, and the ball bounced off his leg. There was a scrum for the ball, but officials ruled delay of game. Collins threw incomplete on the next play, and the Redskins punted.

Seattle took over at its 35 and got a 25-yard completion from Hasselbeck to Burleson. Alexander carried for a yard, and Hasselbeck completed a seven-yarder to D.J. Hackett. On third and two, Hasselbeck was forced out of the pocket before Fred Smoot tackled him with a helmet-to-leg hit for no gain.

On fourth down Josh Brown booted a 50-yard field goal for the only points of the quarter.
