The reeling Heat won't get C Shaquille O'Neal back for at least a week while he receives treatment for a hip injury that has sidelined him for six games.

Coach Pat Riley said after yesterday morning's shoot-around that O'Neal is still in Los Angeles, but they are encouraged by the treatment there and "hope he'll be back by next week."

O'Neal bruised his left hip on Dec. 22 against Utah while diving for a loose ball and crashing into the scorer's table. The injury flared up Dec. 26 against Philadelphia.

Miami (8-27) has lost eight in a row.

¿ ALLEN OUT: Celtics G Ray Allen has a pinched nerve in his neck and is doubtful for tonight's home game against the Bobcats, Coach Doc Rivers said.

"It's not anything that's going to last," Rivers said after practice yesterday, adding he expects Allen to play Friday at New Jersey. "It's a pinched nerve, it is what it is. From my understanding, it's day-to-day."

Allen, who says he doesn't know how he got hurt, has been experiencing soreness in his right shoulder, tingling in his arm and numbness in his fingers for several days.

¿ KNIGHT HURT: Clippers G Brevin Knight underwent an MRI exam Monday that revealed a stress reaction in his left leg.

He will be held out of practice, but will be available to play in upcoming games, the team said. Los Angeles hosts the Magic tonight and the Mavericks on Saturday.

¿ BACKUP HELP: The Warriors signed G C.J. Watson to a 10-day contract, hoping a top player in the NBA's Development League can become their backup point guard.

He is the D-League's third-leading scorer, averaging 26.4 points with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
