Contract: 13 years, $124 million (2008)
Before: The 22-year-old was the top overall pick in 2004 draft. In three seasons he has scored 130 goals, the most of any player over that span heading into last night's games. He is tied for second in the NHL in goals scored this season with 32.

Contract: 7 years, $105 million (1996)
Before: Howard averaged 19.8 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game in his first two seasons and was an all-star in 1996.
After: Averaged 17.7 ppg and 5.0 rpg in his next four-plus seasons before going to Dallas in a nine-player deal in February 2001.

Before: Re-signed after the first game of the 2000 season after a breakout 1,405 yards in 1999.
After: Played through 2002 season with the Redskins before moving on to the Panthers and eventually the Rams, where he finished his career in 2006 with 8,052 rushing yards.

Before: Was in his 11th season when he was traded from Pittsburgh, where he had won two Stanley Cups. He had scored 439 goals and led the league in scoring the four previous seasons.
After: Spent part of three seasons with the Capitals before moving to the Rangers.

Before: Played in all but two games in his first four years, compiling 20.5 sacks.
After: Played 16 games in the next two seasons, with one sack. Played six games for the Giants in 2006 before tearing his Achilles', was released in February 2007 and has been out of football since.

Before: Played two seasons with the Warriors, averaging 15.6 points per game.
