Marcus Stout scored 23 points and Fordham ended an eight-game losing streak against George Washington with a 66-53 victory last night in New York.
Rob Diggs had 19 points for the Colonials (5-7, 1-1 Atlantic 10), who dropped to 0-6 on the road. Maureece Rice had 13 points and Damian Hollis added 11 points and 10 rebounds for George Washington, which had won 14 of its last 15 meetings with Fordham.
George Washington opened the second half with a 19-3 run to wipe out a 13-point deficit and take a 43-40 lead. Diggs had nine points in the run, including the last four.
Diggs's jumper with 7 minutes 30 seconds to play tied the game at 45 before Fordham took the lead for good on three-pointer by Butler with 6:05 left. The Rams increased the lead to as much as 58-47 on a free throw by Stout with 2:03 to go. The closest the Colonials got was 58-51 on a layup by Hermann Ipoku with 1:17 left.
Bryant Dunston had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Rams (7-8, 1-2), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Michael Binns and Brenton Butler both had 10 points for Fordham, which played without Coach Dereck Whittenburg, who was ill and remained home. Assistant Travis Lyons served as the head coach.
BUCKNELL 65, AMERICAN 62: Garrison Carr scored a career-high 30 points for the Eagles, but the Bison rallied from a 11-point halftime deficit to extend their home winning streak in Patriot League games to 37.
Carr scored 18 points in the first half, 12 of them on three-pointers, to American (9-8, 1-1) to a 36-25 halftime lead.
Bucknell (7-9, 2-0) responded by clamping down on defense. It held the Eagles to four points over 10:15 of the second half to erase a seven-point deficit and take a 58-54 lead with two minutes left.
Justin Castleberry led the Bison with 15 points, including six free throws without a miss in the last 30 seconds that sealed the win.
NAVY 79, LEHIGH 69: Greg Sprink led Navy with 26 points and 11 rebounds as the Midshipmen downed their Patriot League rival at Alumni Hall.
Navy (8-9, 1-1) had been dominated by the Mountain Hawks (7-9, 0-2) in recent years, losing eight of the last 11 to them, with one win coming by forfeit, and not beating them at home since the 2002 season.
Sprink was just 5 for 19 from the floor and 2 of 11 from beyond the arc, but made 14 of 15 free throws and had five assists. He also became the fourth player in Navy history to have 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 200 assists in his career.
Navy's hottest hand was Chris Harris, who had four three-pointers in the second half, including three during a decisive 11-0 run that gave the Mids the lead for good, 64-59, with 4:49 left. Harris finished 6 of 9 from the field, making 5 of 7 three-pointers.
Lehigh, which lost its first two conference games for the first time since the 1998-99 season, was led by Marquis Hall with 20 points and six assists.
