Dre Smith set an NCAA record of three-pointers made without a miss, hitting all 10 of his shots from beyond the arc as George Mason beat James Madison, 96-75, in Harrisonburg, Va., last night.

Smith finished with a career-high 34 points as the Patriots (13-5, 5-2 Colonial Athletic Association) won their seventh straight in the series.

George Mason led 48-34 at the half and started the second with an 8-0 run. But the Dukes (10-7, 3-4) went on a 16-7 run to pull to within 67-55. Mason then went on to lead 83-66 with 4 minutes 20 seconds to play on Smith's ninth three-pointer.

Smith broke the record of 9 for 9 held by three players, Mark Poag of Old Dominion, Markus Wilson of Evansville and Donnie McGrath of Providence.

John Vaughan added 20 points for George Mason, and Folarin Campbell and Will Thomas each had 16 points. Thomas also surpassed 1,300 points for his career in the game.

Smith's 34 points were the most scored by a Patriot since Lamar Butler had 36 against Morehead State on Dec. 30, 2004.

In his past two games against JMU, Smith is 17 of 18 from three-point range. The 96 points for Mason were the most since it scored 104 in double overtime against William & Mary on Feb. 12, 2005. It was the first time Mason reached 90 in a game since beating JMU, 95-68, in the 2005-06 regular season finale.

Terrance Carter led the Dukes with 23 points and Juwann James added 16.

¿ AMERICAN 65, COLGATE 57: Despite shooting only 25 percent in the second half, the Eagles got 22 points from Garrison Carr and held on for the victory at Bender Arena.

Colgate cut into a 49-34 deficit early in the second half with an 18-6 run. The Eagles (10-8, 2-1) went more than 13 minutes without a field goal until Derrick Mercer's three-pointer with a minute and a half remaining.

Kyle Roemer countered with a three-pointer for Colgate (9-8, 1-2) with just less than a minute left to cut American's lead to 59-57, but the Eagles ended the game with six unanswered points to secure the win.
