The Grand Total and a Ton of Gratitude

We've added up the many contributions, large and small, to this year's Children's National Medical Center campaign, and the total comes to $325,591.69! We didn't reach our $500,000 goal, but the fact that so many of you felt compelled to give is a sign of how important Children's Hospital is in our community.

This year, as always, every cent raised will go to help cover the medical bills of youngsters whose families have no way of paying for the excellent treatment delivered at Children's Hospital.

Thanks to all of you who gave. And thanks to Michael Checkan of Asset Strategies, who converted foreign donations into U.S. dollars, and to Craig Wilton, who volunteered the use of US Express Couriers to pick up group gifts and deliver them to The Washington Post.

A special thanks goes to the doctors, nurses, volunteers, patients and patient families who let The Post into their lives and their work. There are amazing stories inside that glass-and-steel building on Michigan Avenue NW -- stories of incredible bravery, toughness, intelligence and caring. We wish we could have told more of them.
