San Diego star LaDainian Tomlinson withdrew from the Pro Bowl yesterday, paving the way for Willis McGahee's first appearance in the game.
Baltimore's running back, a second alternate, earned a trip to Hawaii because Tomlinson has a sprained knee. McGahee missed Baltimore's regular season finale with broken ribs but has sufficiently recovered and is eager to be part of the AFC squad.
"It is an honor and a privilege to be going to the Pro Bowl, especially when your peers have a say in the matter," McGahee said in a statement. "It is a goal that I have had for a long time, and I am going to enjoy every second of this."
Linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed were also selected to play in the Pro Bowl; tackle Jonathan Ogden pulled out.
The Ravens also hired Jerry Rosburg as special teams coach, a move that provides veteran leadership on a unit that is particularly important to new coach John Harbaugh. Rosburg coached the Atlanta Falcons' special teams this season.
¿ NO DECISION: Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre said he hadn't decided yet whether he will return to play next season.
"We just played a little over a week ago," Favre said, "and I'm going to take a few more weeks."
