Serious Business

As the Giants ran onto the field for pregame warmups, New York quarterback Eli Manning greeted New England counterpart Tom Brady with a friendly pat. Brady gave Manning a cursory glance as Manning ran by with a wide smile. Then Brady went back to throwing the football, never once straying from his game face.

Man of the Year

Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor was the recipient of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award presented annually to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of the late Bears Hall of Famer. Taylor is active in philanthropic work with the Jason Taylor Foundation.

Honoring a Legend

The coin-flip ceremony included a tribute to former San Francisco coach Bill Walsh, who died in July. Former 49ers players Steve Young, Ronnie Lott and Jerry Rice were at midfield for the coin flip, won by the Giants, who called tails. New York punter Jeff Feagles, who waited 20 years to play in a Super Bowl, made the call.
