"For a while, hockey was in the back of mind," he said. "I was just trying to get healthy."

Fehr eventually had a herniated disk diagnosed. Doctors told him rest was the only remedy.

In December, he ramped up his rehabilitation, spending three weeks working with the Canadiens' osteopath in Montreal. When he returned to Hershey, Bears defenseman Josef Boumedienne arranged for his personal orthopedic specialist to travel from Finland to assist in Fehr's recovery.

Capitals Notes: Brent Johnson is expected to start in goal against the Blue Jackets, who have lost three straight games but remain in the mix for the franchise's first Western Conference playoff berth. . . . Pascal LeClaire (league-leading eight shutouts, .924 save percentage) is expected to start for Columbus.
