Capitals Hope Fehr Is An Offensive Remedy
"For a while, hockey was in the back of mind," he said. "I was just trying to get healthy."
Fehr eventually had a herniated disk diagnosed. Doctors told him rest was the only remedy.
In December, he ramped up his rehabilitation, spending three weeks working with the Canadiens' osteopath in Montreal. When he returned to Hershey, Bears defenseman Josef Boumedienne arranged for his personal orthopedic specialist to travel from Finland to assist in Fehr's recovery.
Fehr finally returned to Hershey's lineup on Jan. 9 against the Norfolk Admirals and recorded an assist on his first shift. He has played in 10 games for the Bears, amassing two goals and four assists.
"I've taken a few hits and I given a few hits," Fehr said. "I've rolled around on the ice battling. It's like nothing ever happened to me. . . . Now it's time to put up or shut up."
Capitals Notes: Brent Johnson is expected to start in goal against the Blue Jackets, who have lost three straight games but remain in the mix for the franchise's first Western Conference playoff berth. . . . Pascal LeClaire (league-leading eight shutouts, .924 save percentage) is expected to start for Columbus.
