Butler Will Travel, But Might Not Play
Thursday, February 7, 2008
Caron Butler will join the Washington Wizards on a four-game road trip that begins tomorrow night in Denver but there is a chance he may not play again until after the all-star break, which runs from Feb. 14 to 18.
After missing two games against Toronto and another against Utah with a strained left hip flexor, Butler returned for Sunday's loss to the Lakers but didn't look like his usual all-star self. In the third quarter of Tuesday's loss at Philadelphia, Butler left the game when he aggravated the injury.
"We listen to our training staff, we listen to Caron and what our doctors say," Coach Eddie Jordan said. "There's no real damage there -- it's just sore -- so if he feels he can go with moderate pain, he's going to try to go. . . . We want him to get better as well as he can for us so we can win games."
However, several of Butler's teammates spoke as though they expected him to miss several more games.
After last night's 85-77 loss to the Spurs, the Wizards are 1-4 without Butler, who missed a Dec. 22 loss at Indiana with sprained ankles. The team is 7-24 without Butler since he became a Wizard beginning in 2005-06.
A Giant in the Desert
The locker room was buzzing over the trade that sent Shaquille O'Neal from Miami to Phoenix yesterday, and it may not take long for the Wizards to get a peek at the new-look Suns. They visit Phoenix on Sunday.
"I hope he's not there yet," guard DeShawn Stevenson said. "Man."
