Tuesday's Stride

It's Tuesday -- the most productive day of the week.

In an Accountemps survey of 150 top managers at major companies, 57 percent of respondents picked Tuesday as the day the staff works at peak performance.

Monday doesn't make it because of all the catch-up and meetings, although it used to rate higher.

And forget about Friday -- when the weekend beckons and some workers are already missing.

Wednesday and Thursday garnered about one in 10 picks each for most productive.

Tuesday was also the winner in surveys in 2002, 1998 and 1987.

Accountemps officials reason that efforts made on Tuesday establish momentum for the rest of the week.

At the Ruby Tuesday restaurant on Wisconsin Avenue in Tenleytown, Tuesdays are one of the busiest days.

"Tuesday is a day when they come out for lunch. Lunch is like the Wilson Bridge at the height of rush hour," said assistant manager Mike Burke. "Everybody is trying to get into one space at one time."

So the staff moves quickly, and customers eat quickly to get back to their desks, ready for an industrious afternoon.
