LOS ANGELES, Feb. 13 -- Wizards forward Caron Butler missed his sixth straight game with a strained left hip flexor Wednesday night and also will sit out the All-Star Game on Sunday in New Orleans.
Butler, who is the midst of the best season of his career, was selected to the Eastern Conference all-star squad as a reserve for the second consecutive season but said his top priority is getting back to full strength so he can help the slumping Wizards, who had lost eight straight games entering Wednesday's game against the Clippers.
Butler will be replaced in the game by Boston guard Ray Allen, a friend and fellow University of Connecticut product, but will be in New Orleans for the weekend's events.
"I'm feeling better, but it's still not at the point where I can go out there and play with confidence that I'm not going to hurt it again and have it turn into a long-term problem," Butler said. "I'm looking at it like, if I can take this week and rest it and work on it with one of the [athletic] trainers, I'll be good to go when we come back."
Washington's first game after the break is Tuesday night at home against the Knicks.
Butler said he is happy for Allen.
"It was Ray and guys like Clifford Robinson who helped get the whole U-Conn. thing rolling, so he's my man, that's my mentor right there," Butler said of Allen. "I'll be out there pulling for him."
