Dear Dr. Fox:

Two of our three house cats bring us their small stuffed animals several times a day. We give them great praise for their efforts, and they love the attention.

However, our third cat, a 5-year-old neutered male tabby, Alexander the Great, has an endearing, yet quite curious, method of bringing us his "prey."

Alex routinely dunks his stuffed baby tiger into the water dish, usually facedown. He then drags it around the house, meowing loudly, and finally he deposits it near us. If we are not home, he usually leaves the tiger, soaking wet or not, on our bed or somewhere in the master bedroom.

Is he trying to clean the prey before offering it to us? Also, do you have any clues as to why he doesn't drown his other animal toys, which are all very similar in size and weight?
