Jasmine Parker scored 16 points and No. 10 Old Dominion stayed on track for its first perfect season in the Colonial Athletic Association in six years, beating Virginia Commonwealth, 87-67, last night in Richmond.
The Lady Monarchs (23-3, 14-0 CAA), seeking their 17th consecutive league title and first unbeaten season in the CAA since 2001-02, dominated by pounding the ball inside, scoring 40 points in the paint and adding eight three-pointers.
Parker hit four of them in as many tries for Old Dominion, Tiffany Green and T.J. Jordan scored 14 each, Jazzmin Walters had 13 and Shahida Williams 12.
The Rams (19-6, 9-5), playing only their second game since post player Quanitra Hollingsworth was lost for the season with an injury, were within 10 at halftime, but could do little to stop the Lady Monarchs once they turned their attention inside.
NORTH CAROLINA 79, MIAMI 61: Erlana Larkins scored 18 points to lead the No. 2 Tar Heels to victory in Coral Gables, Fla.
Rashanda McCants finished with 17 points and Rebecca Gray scored 15 points as the Tar Heels wore down the Hurricanes with two first-half runs. North Carolina (25-2, 12-0 ACC) has won eight straight and 16 of its past 17. Maurita Reid scored 18 points to lead Miami (9-17, 2-9).
TENNESSEE 85, ALABAMA 58: Candace Parker scored 19 points to help lead the No. 3 Lady Vols to the road victory.
Tennessee (24-2, 10-1 Southeastern Conference) opened fast and had a 31-10 with 8:42 left to go in the first half.
The Crimson Tide fell to 8-19, 1-11.
OHIO ST. 69, IOWA 56: In Columbus, Ohio, Ashley Trebilcock and Jantel Lavender each scored 18 points to draw the No. 20 Buckeyes closer to their fourth straight Big Ten title.
Marscilla Packer added 12 points for Ohio State (20-6, 11-4).
Kristi Smith had 17 points for Iowa (18-9, 11-5), which had won nine of its past 10.
