Prep Basketball Schedule Mostly Wiped Out

Nearly all of today's slate of high school basketball games, including postseason tournaments in Northern Virginia and for many of the area's private schools, has been postponed because of the inclement weather.

The Washington Catholic Athletic Conference pushed the quarterfinals of its boys' basketball tournament to Saturday at Gallaudet: Good Counsel vs. Carroll, 1; Gonzaga vs. St. John's, 2:45; O'Connell vs Paul VI Catholic, 4:30; DeMatha vs Bishop McNamara, 6:15.

The WCAC girls' basketball tournament quarterfinals, scheduled for tomorrow at Gallaudet, were moved to Gonzaga, beginning at noon with Carroll vs. St. John's, followed by Good Counsel vs. Elizabeth Seton at 1:45, Bishop McNamara vs. St. Mary's Ryken at 3:30, and Holy Cross vs. Paul VI Catholic at 5:15.

The Mid-Atlantic Conference boys' basketball semifinal games were postponed until Saturday: Sidwell Friends at Potomac School, 5; St. James at Flint Hill, tentatively at 1. The championship game is set for Monday at 5 p.m. at the home court of the higher remaining seed.

In Virginia, all of the basketball district finals in the Northern Region were postponed until Saturday:

Patriot District at Lake Braddock: West Springfield vs. T.C. Williams girls, 5; West Potomac vs T.C. Williams boys, 7.

Concorde District at Robinson: Oakton vs. Herndon girls, 5; Westfield vs. Chantilly boys, 7.

National District at Mount Vernon: Edison vs. Mount Vernon girls, 5; Yorktown vs. Mount Vernon boys, 7.

Liberty District at South Lakes: Langley vs. Madison girls, 5; Langley vs. McLean boys, 7.

The Sleepy Thompson tournament at St. Stephen's/St. Agnes also was postponed today. The semifinals were moved to Saturday and the championship game will be played Sunday at 6 p.m.

Many Maryland public school games could be rescheduled for Saturday as teams try to get in one final game before Sunday's regional playoff draw.

The start of Saturday's Virginia AAA Northern Region indoor track and field meet at George Mason University has been delayed from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m.

The Maryland Scholastic Hockey League boys' semifinal between Easton and Wilde Lake, originally scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m., has been postponed until Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at The Gardens Ice House in Laurel.

The other semifinal, Wootton vs. Linganore, is still on for Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Laurel.

The boys' championship game, originally scheduled for Saturday night, has been moved to Monday at 4:30 p.m. in Laurel.

The MSHL girls' championship game between Holton-Arms and Bryn Mawr will be played Friday as scheduled at 5 p.m. in Laurel.

The Mid-Atlantic Prep Hockey League championship game between DeMatha and Mount St. Joseph also will be played as scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday in Laurel.
