Stealth Bomber Crashes On Guam; 2 Pilots Safe

HAGATNA, Guam -- A B-2 stealth bomber crashed Saturday at an Air Force base on Guam, but both pilots ejected safely and were in good condition, the Air Force said.

It was the first crash of a B-2 bomber, said Capt. Sheila Johnston, a spokeswoman for Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia.

Thick, black smoke could be seen billowing from the wreckage at Andersen Air Force Base, said Jeanne Ward, a resident in the northern village of Yigo who was on the base visiting her husband.

Ward said she did not witness the crash but noticed a rising plume of smoke behind the base's air control tower.

She said crowds began to gather as emergency vehicles arrived. "Everybody was on their cellphones, and the first thing everyone wanted to know was did the pilots make it out in time," she said.

A board of officers will investigate the accident.

Each B-2 bomber costs about $1.2 billion to build.

Guam is a U.S. territory 3,700 miles southwest of Hawaii.

Judge Denies Request for CBS Film

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- A judge threw out a subpoena for unaired CBS News footage that the military says is vital in its effort to prosecute a Marine sergeant in an attack that killed 24 Iraqi civilians. The military judge, Lt. Col. Jeffrey Meeks, said prosecutors had other avenues to get evidence in the case against Staff Sgt. Frank D. Wuterich. Prosecutors say the "60 Minutes" interview contained admissions of crimes in the attack.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The driver of a van that hit a school bus in a crash that killed four children near Cottonwood, Minn., on Tuesday was charged with four counts of criminal vehicular homicide and two lesser charges, authorities said. The woman failed to stop at a stop sign before hitting the bus, which was carrying 28 students, a prosecutor said. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents said they believe the woman gave them an alias and is in the country illegally.

Man Dies After Police Halt Search

GARRETT, Ind. -- Confused police abandoned their search for a car wreck, leaving a 66-year-old man, who died outside his vehicle in freezing temperatures, and his autistic grandson, who huddled inside for nearly a day. A passerby talking to a dispatcher tried to direct authorities to the wrecked car, but they mistook the vehicle as belonging to someone gathering firewood, police said.
