Highlights

Beginning at 9 a.m., C-SPAN provides live daylong coverage from New Orleans of Tavis Smiley's annual "State of the Black Union," featuring a speech by Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton at 4 p.m. and a panel including Mayor Ray Nagin, Cornel West, the Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, Michael Eric Dyson and Michael Steele.

In the early evening, Rainn Wilson hosts the annual Spirit Awards (IFC at 5) live from Santa Monica. An edited version of the ceremony honoring achievements in independent film repeats at 10 p.m. on AMC.

Tonight, the documentary "Joe Louis: America's Hero . . . Betrayed" (HBO at 8) profiles the heavyweight boxing champion and recounts how the U.S. government drove him to financial despair.

"Saturday Night Live" (Channel 4, 11:30) returns after a long, writers'-strike-imposed absence with host Tina Fey and musical guest Carrie Underwood.

Sunday morning roundup: "Fox News Sunday" (Channel 5 at 9) interviews McCain campaign manager Rick Davis and Govs. Tim Pawlenty (R-Minn.), Mark Sanford (R-S.C.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Jon Corzine (D-N.J.); "The Chris Matthews Show" (Channel 4 at 10) has HDNet's Dan Rather, CNN's Gloria Borger, Newsweek's Howard Fineman and NBC's Norah O'Donnell; "This Week" (Channel 7 at 10) features Sens. Joe Biden (D-Del.) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Tex.); "Meet the Press" (Channel 4, 10:30) interviews Ralph Nader; "Face the Nation" (Channel 9, 10:30) has McCain adviser Charles Black and Govs. Janet Napolitano (D-Ariz.) and Jennifer Granholm (D-Mich.); and "Late Edition" (CNN at 11) features McCain lawyer Robert Bennett, Govs. Pawlenty, Ed Rendell (D-Pa.) and Kathleen Sibelius (D-Kan.) and Sen. Tomorrow night, Jon Stewart hosts the 80th annual Academy Awards (Channel 7, 8:30) live from Hollywood. ABC's coverage of the arrivals begins at 8 p.m. Lisa Rinna and Joey Fatone host red-carpet coverage for the TV Guide Channel at 6 p.m. and E!'s arrival coverage, also at 6 p.m., is hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic.

Before the Oscars, the annual "Barbara Walters Special" (Channel 7 at 7) features interviews with Ellen Page, Harrison Ford, Vanessa Williams and Miley Cyrus.

On "The Wire" (HBO at 9), Daniels and McNulty meet with some fresh recruits, Carcetti brokers a risky political deal and Haynes questions Templeton about his sources.

"Breaking Bad" (AMC at 10) finds Walt and Skyler attending the birthday party of an affluent former colleague and Jesse attempting to go straight.

"Masterpiece" (Channels 22 and 26 at 9) concludes the three-part 1996 adaptation of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice."
