Mr. Reed worked as a geographic information systems specialist since 2006.

He was born in Washington and graduated from the Barrie School in Silver Spring. From the University of Maryland, he received both a bachelor's degree in 2004 and a master's degree, in geography, in 2006.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served his mission in the Maryland and Washington area. He was also a member of the American Meteorological Society, the National Environmental and Meteorological Association, and the American Association of Geographers.

He received the Youth Achievement Award from the National Council on Communication Disorders.

He enjoyed friends, family, music, cars, baseball, basketball, movies, weather, maps and history.

Survivors include his parents, Whetten and Diana Reed, of Silver Spring; three sisters, Tanya Lindquist of Las Vegas, Nev., Layce Reed of Oahu, Hawaii, and Sonia Smith of Jackson, Miss.; and his grandmother, Vernelle Reed of Safford, Ariz.

Gail Fairman ChlonCommunications Specialist

Gail Fairman Chlon, 54, a communications specialist and homemaker, died Feb. 18 of a rare abdominal cancer at her home in Norcross, Ga.

Mrs. Chlon, an Arlington native, graduated from Yorktown High School and West Virginia University, where she was one of the earliest collegiate female sports editors.

She married and moved to Birmingham, where she worked as a communications specialist for several companies, including Protective Life Corp. and BellSouth Telecommunications. After several other moves, the family settled in Norcross in 2002.
