HOUSTON, Feb. 26 -- The three-pointer Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson made at the end of Monday's 95-92 win in New Orleans was his first game-winning shot since high school.
After the shot made the rounds on the nightly highlight shows, Stevenson's phone started buzzing and he estimated that he wound up receiving around 50 messages.
"My phone was blowing up," he said.
Coach Eddie Jordan said Stevenson's 33 points and clutch performance down the stretch would also get the attention of upcoming opponents.
"What usually happens is: The next opponent watches that tape and they are going to be swarming on DeShawn now," Jordan said. "I'm sure that he'll have a little bit of a target on him now."
Candid Coach
Third-year forward-center Andray Blatche made his 14th start of the season Tuesday in place of injured all-star Caron Butler. Entering Tuesday's game, Blatche was averaging 12.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks as a starter and he had scored in double figures in four of the previous five games.
Jordan, who has several tried-and-true lines when discussing the game, rolled out a new one when asked about Blatche on Monday.
"Young players are like zippers," he said. "They're up and down." . . .
Rockets center Yao Ming had his season-ending foot injury diagnosed at the Roger Clemens Institute for Sports Medicine and Human Performance at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center.
