Saturday, March 1, 2008; B05

Here is a breakdown of the seven taxes and fees that have been collected in Northern Virginia since Jan. 1 to help pay for the Transportation Funding Reform Act.

The fees were collected by Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun and Prince William counties and the cities of Fairfax, Falls Church, Alexandria, Manassas and Manassas Park.

¿ Congestion relief fee: an additional 40 cents for every $100 on property sales.

¿ Motor vehicle rental tax: 2 percent of rental rate.

¿ Hotel room tax: 2 percent of room rate.

¿ Safety inspection fee: $10 a year.

¿ Sales tax on auto repairs: 5 percent of labor charges.

¿ Regional vehicle registration fee: $10 a year.

¿ Initial vehicle registration fee: 1 percent of value (a one-time fee).

The General Assembly will decide whether and how to give refunds to people who have already paid the taxes and fees.
