Darius Songaila made his second straight start at forward last night against New Orleans, and Wizards Coach Eddie Jordan indicated that he likely will continue to start him with Antonio Daniels, DeShawn Stevenson, Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood.

Making Songaila a starter shifted third-year forward-center Andray Blatche back to the role of coming off the bench.

"I just think that more solid veteran play is what I trust right now," Jordan said before his team's 101-84 win over the Hornets. "Andray can make some dynamic plays but he's still a young player so he can also make some plays that are a little bit risky for my blood and then you look at what Darius has done, his body of work lately and he's done some really good things."

Blatche, who has started 14 games this season, has responded well to the move so far. He had 17 points and 10 rebounds in Friday's win at Chicago and contributed 11 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals against the Hornets.

"It either motivated him or ticked him off," Jordan said. "They both work." . . .

Team president Ernie Grunfeld was honored by the University of Tennessee yesterday by having his number (22) retired. Grunfeld, who teamed up with Bernard King to form the memorable "Ernie and Bernie Show" at Tennessee, left as the school's all-time leading scorer in 1977.
