The bills would:
Lower the standard by which a mentally ill person can be committed to a hospital against his or her will.
Expand the criteria by which a mentally ill person can be barred from buying or owning guns.
Require that local mental health officials more closely monitor people in treatment.
Allow the sharing of information between mental health providers and court officials to keep better track of people in treatment.
