Normal operations resumed on Metro's Red Line at about 6:30 p.m. after the Takoma Station was closed for about 40 minutes because of a report of a suspicious package, officials said.

D.C. police investigated and found there was no danger, Metro spokeswoman Candace Smith said. Customers should expect residual delays.

Earlier today, Metro closed the Navy Yard and Waterfront-SEU rail stations after a gas leak from a nearby construction site closed the stations for nearly an hour, officials said. Metro ran shuttle bus service between the Anacostia and L'Enfant Plaza stations.

The stations reopened shortly after 4 .m. once gas leak had been brought under control, a Metro spokeswoman said, and the D.C. fire department has ventilated the stations.

Green Line service resumed at 4:10 p.m., but customers should expect residual delays.
