Pregnancy Will Cause Teasley To Miss Part of Mystics' Season

Washington Mystics point guard Nikki Teasley is pregnant and will miss at least part of the upcoming season.
"It's really a private, personal matter," said Teasley, who declined to say when her baby is due. "I'll miss a very small part of the season."
Teasley, who will turn 29 on March 22, started 33 games for the Mystics last season. She averaged 5.2 points and 3.3 assists per game. Teasley's absence would leave Nikki Blue as the only point guard on the roster. The Mystics signed point guard Amber Jacobs to an offer sheet on Tuesday. The Minnesota Lynx have until tomorrow to match the offer.
PRO FOOTBALL: The Washington Redskins re-signed reserve defensive tackle Ryan Boschetti. In 19 games with the Redskins, Boschetti, an undrafted free agent out of UCLA, had 15 tackles. He also contributed on special teams. . . .
The New York Giants signed David Carr in a move that gives the Super Bowl champions an experienced backup who, like starter Eli Manning, was a No. 1 overall pick. Terms were not immediately available. Taken first by Houston in the 2002 draft, Carr was released by the Texans after the 2006 season and signed with Carolina. The Panthers released him after this past season. . . .
The Atlanta Falcons re-signed Joey Harrington, one week after cutting the six-year veteran quarterback. . . .
Ted Sundquist's six-year tenure as the Denver Broncos' general manager is over.
In a brief statement, Coach Mike Shanahan said it was time for the organization to move forward and look at new directions. Denver was 7-9 last season.
HORSE RACING: Racing and training at Charles Town Races & Slots was suspended through at least today until officials determine what's ailing a 4-year-old filly. Dickie Moore, the track's general manager for racing, said the horse shows signs of equine herpes.
HOCKEY: The Pittsburgh Penguins will open the 2008-09 season with two games against the Ottawa Senators in Stockholm. . . .
Dallas Stars forward Steve Ott was suspended three games without pay by the NHL because of a blow to the head of Colorado defenseman Jordan Leopold on Sunday.
GOLF: John Daly missed his pro-am time at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando and was disqualified from the tournament.
It came one day after swing coach Butch Harmon, said he was done working with Daly because he appeared more interested in drinking than working on his game.
SOCCER: For the first time, UEFA will conduct blood tests to detect EPO and growth hormones at the upcoming European championship.
BOXING: American heavyweight Deontay Wilder won his opening bout at the Americas Olympic qualifier in Trinidad and Tobago with a 6-5 victory over Harol Caicedo of Colombia. Wilder must finish among the top three in his weight class to qualify for the Olympics.
