Frazee's Big Shot Gives Liberty Big South Title

Megan Frazee scored 24 points, including the game-winning basket with 0.3 of a second left, as Liberty defeated Radford, 66-65, to win its 11th Big South championship in 12 years yesterday in Asheville, N.C.

Frazee, named the tournament's most valuable player, scored on a turnaround jumper in the lane after the Lady Flames (28-3) forced a turnover in the back court with 3.2 seconds to go.

"We knew what we wanted to do," Frazee said. "It happened to go our way and we're just blessed. You can't ever count us out."

Radford (23-11) and Liberty have advanced to the Big South tournament championship game in each of the 22 years of the conference's existence, but this was the first meeting between the schools in the title game. The teams have combined to win 20 of the 22 league championships.

Liberty trailed 63-57 after a basket from Kelli Darden with under three minutes to play, but limited Radford to just one basket the rest of the way. Frazee and Courtney Watkins each made three-pointers to tie the game before Frazee hit the clincher.

¿ AMERICA EAST: Lisa Etienne scored 19 points to help Hartford win its fourth conference championship with a 61-45 victory over Boston University in West Hartford, Conn.

Hartford (27-5) has won 26 straight at home and has lost only two games on its home court in the last four years.

Etienne also had eight rebounds and was named the tournament's MVP.

It was the third time in four years the teams have met in the conference championship, with Hartford winning the previous two in 2005 (52-50) and 2006 (75-56).

Jesyka Burks-Wiley scored 12 points for Boston University (20-12).
