Hearings on Metro's 30s Line

Metro is holding public hearings tonight and Wednesday on a proposed restructuring of its highest ridership bus line, the 30s line, which runs between the Friendship Heights Metro station and the Southern Avenue and Naylor Road stations.

The plan maintains some local bus service but also establishes new routes, including more limited-stop service. The hearings will begin at 7 p.m. Tonight's hearing (No. 531) is at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, 4201 Albemarle St. NW. Wednesday's hearing (No. 532) is at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2800 Pennsylvania Ave. SE.

Those who wish to speak must provide, in writing, their name, address, telephone number and organizational affiliation, if any, as well as the hearing number, to Office of the Secretary, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, 600 Fifth St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20001. Two Men Are Killed in Northeast

Two men were shot and killed in the District over the weekend.

The first death occurred about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers were called to Evarts Street NE near the intersection with North Capitol Street and found a man dead from a gunshot wound. The second slaying occurred about 2 a.m. Sunday in the 3100 block of Apple Road NE, police said. Neither the names nor ages of the victims had been released last night.
