School Aide Charged With Giving Teens Alcohol

A teacher's aide at a Loudoun County high school has been charged with being drunk in public and providing alcohol to a group of teenagers at a house party in Sterling on Friday night, authorities said yesterday.

Jennifer Rose Allen, 24, of Sterling was charged with providing alcohol to 13 juveniles, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said. Another person at the party, Steven M. Rodney, 19, of Sterling, was charged with being drunk in public and with underage possession of alcohol.

School officials said yesterday that Allen had been removed from her job at Potomac Falls High School. She was released from the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on an $11,000 bond.

Leesburg Man Is Jailed After Fatal Accident

A Leesburg man was charged Saturday with aggravated manslaughter in an alcohol- related crash that killed a California man, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said yesterday.

Arturo A. Martinez, 32, was driving west on Route 7 in a 1999 Ford pickup when he struck a 2006 Hyundai near Smith Circle, authorities said. The Hyundai driver asked Martinez to pull over because her car had been damaged. Martinez accelerated and lost control of his pickup when he tried to make a right turn onto Janelia Farm Boulevard from the left lane of Route 7, authorities said. His vehicle struck a highway sign, then a 2008 Pontiac driven by Jeffrey Cooper, 52. Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash pushed the car into a 2007 Lexus. The occupants of the Lexus were treated at Inova Loudoun Hospital for minor injuries.

In addition to aggravated manslaughter, Martinez has been charged with hit-and-run and driving under the influence. He is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
