Satellite Hunted Down
Officials say little debris was created last month when the United States shot down its crippled spy satellite. None of the debris was larger than a football and nearly all of it burned up during re-entry to the atmosphere, according to Rear Admiral Alan Hicks, who heads the Pentagon's Aegis ballistic missile defense program.
Moths Munch Trees
Gypsy moths are the most destructive forest pests in Maryland, the state's Department of Agriculture says.
The moths eat the leaves on hardwood trees in May and June and have affected more than 1 million acres since 1980.
"It literally looks like a war zone once they come through," said American Joe Miedusiewski, a lobbyist for the Maryland Arborist Association.
State lawmakers are studying the problem.
House Lands an Owner
A flying-saucer-shaped house in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has a new owner for $135,000. Built in 1970, the circular house has multiple levels, three bedrooms, two baths and an entrance staircase that lowers and pulls up with the push of a button.
