This Story

  • Make copies of data files; creating a hard-drive image backup could not hurt. Backup options include storing data on USB devices, external hard drives, CDs/DVDs and online.

  • Move at least one backup copy separate from your computer. For instance, if the computer is on a truck, the backup should be in your briefcase.

  • Map components before disassembling computers or electronic equipment. Approaches include:

-- Color-code cables and jacks, or label them.

-- Sketch back panels and label switches and jacks for quick reassembly.
