WHICH AGENCIES HAVE ACCESS?
The State Department recently expanded access to:
- Department of Homeland Security.
- National Counterterrorism Center.
- Office of Personnel Management.
- Social Security Administration.
WHAT ABOUT OTHER COUNTRIES?
Foreign governments can get access to U.S. passport records under certain conditions, a Feb. 9 State Department statement said, "to permit such governments to fulfill passport control and immigration duties" and to support law enforcement efforts.
WHAT ABOUT GOVERNMENT CONTRACTORS?
Contractor personnel may also access the files to carry out "data entry, scanning, corrections, and modifications," as well as "other authorized functions related to passport records."
