Traffic Triple-Header

Three traffic-generating events will occur Saturday in the District.

The National Marathon and Half Marathon, which course through the city along two large loops, will require temporary street closings beginning about 7 a.m. and continuing till about 1 p.m. The races begin and end at RFK Stadium.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival begins, and the blossoms around the Tidal Basin should be peaking.

And the Washington Nationals play an exhibition game against the Orioles at the new stadium on South Capitol Street at 6 p.m., before they open the season with a Sunday night game.

Break on Track Work

Metrorail has curtailed its weekend track work program through April 13. The break should be especially pleasing to Red Line riders, who have endured several months of extensive delays. But it's also well-timed for the many events and the heavy travel period coming up in early spring.

Ti dal Basin Parking

For the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the National Park Service will close the Tidal Basin parking lot at 1501 Maine Ave. SW starting Wednesday. It probably will remain closed until April 15.
