Man Fatally Shot in Northwest

An unidentified man was fatally shot last night outside the Park Morton housing complex in Northwest Washington, authorities said.

Police were called to the 600 block of Morton Street NW about 10:30 p.m. and found the man lying in the middle of the circle at the end of the block, Assistant Police Chief Diane Groomes said. He had been shot several times in the upper body and head, she said.

Officers were canvassing the area last night for witnesses. Neighbors reported exchanges of gunfire two weeks ago, Groomes said, although no one was injured.

"When you have shots fired a lot, it's an indicator of something going on," she said.

Police Cite PCP Use in 3 Stabbings

A 33-year-old D.C. woman high on PCP yesterday slashed her boyfriend in the neck, stabbed his 87-year-old grandmother several times and then turned the knife on herself, gashing her stomach, D.C. police said.

The grandmother, who was in critical condition, was undergoing surgery yesterday. Police said the man, 46, and the woman, who was in police custody, were in stable condition. Police did not identify them.

Investigators said the woman became enraged about 11 a.m. while in a house at Holbrook and Oates streets NE, near Gallaudet University. It was unclear yesterday what sparked her anger.
