Offensive Lineman Fabini to Return to Redskins

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

Veteran offensive lineman Jason Fabini plans to re-sign with the Washington Redskins, a league source said yesterday, and financial terms of the one-year contract were not immediately available. Fabini, a 10-year veteran, had a minimum salary of $720,000 last season, and players with 10 or more seasons in the NFL will have salaries of at least $830,000 next season.

Fabini, a tackle for his first nine seasons, replaced starting right guard Randy Thomas, who tore his triceps in Week 2. Fabini emerged as a major contributor on a makeshift offensive line that helped the Redskins earn a playoff berth.

Fabini would be the fourth free agent to re-sign with the team. Backup quarterback Todd Collins, return specialist Rock Cartwright and punter Derrick Frost also accepted new deals. The team is awaiting a decision from wide receiver Reche Caldwell, who has been offered a contract.
