It's festival season in the Hampton Roads region, which over the next few months will celebrate the best things in life: food, music, art, beer. Here are four events worth penciling in.

This Story

* International Azalea Festival (April 14-19). In honor of NATO's Norfolk-based command, the fest highlights one country each year. Netherlands, you're up. The event will include a queen's fashion show, the Parade of Nations and a regatta. Info: 757-282-2801, http://www.azaleafestival.org.

* Virginia Arts Festival (April 18-May 26). The all-arts event runs the full cultural gamut, from the Alvin Ailey dance company to the Peking Acrobats to the music of Led Zeppelin. Info: 757-282-2800, http://www.virginiaartsfest.com.

* Virginia Beer Festival (May 17): This Norfolk brewfest is more sip and savor than chug, thanks to beers from dozens of manufacturers. (If your taste runs more toward grapes, come a week earlier for the spring wine fest.) Info: 757-282-2800, http://www.festeventsva.org.

* Harborfest (June 6-8): In Norfolk, lovers of land and sea gather to see more than 700 boats (including tall ships), eat crab cakes, arrr with pirates and enjoy other maritime treats. Info: 757-441-2345, http://www.festeventsva.org.
