- Marketed for children, good for grown-ups, too: An Indianapolis company named Funky Monkey Snacks delivers three of the daily recommended food pyramid servings of fruit in its new 1-ounce packages of freeze-dried tropical bits. Their light crunch is satisfying, without added sugars or preservatives (and kosher/pareve). Each foil pouch is 110 or 120 calories with little fat; flavors include cinnamon-flavored banana, lime juice with pineapple, banana with acai berries and a fruity mix; $2.19 each, available at Whole Foods Market stores in Rockville, Falls Church and Springfield. - Fit & Fresh Smart Portion Chill Containers, made by MEDport of Providence, R.I., represent improvements in mindful eating on the go. They stack easily and come in measure-marked one-cup and two-cup sizes. What we like best is the thin, detachable chill pack, which snaps onto the underside of the container lid; remove the pack and the container is dishwasher-safe (top rack only). Frozen packs help keep food cold for up to six hours.
The containers are part of a "system" of portable receptacles designed for salads, drinks and more. About $10 for a four-pack of either size; available at Linens 'n Things and Bed Bath & Beyond stores, or go to www.fit-fresh.com and Amazon.com.
