Women's Hall of Famer
Toby Orenstein, owner and artistic director of Toby's Dinner Theatres of Baltimore and Columbia, and founder and artistic director of the Columbia Center for Theatrical Arts, was inducted into the Maryland Women's Hall of Fame this month.
Orenstein, who has been involved in Maryland theater programs for more than 35 years, is a member of Howard County's Women's Hall of Fame and has received a number of other awards.
Land-Use Meetings
The Howard County Public Engagement in Land Use Task Force will meet at 7 p.m. April 10 in the Banneker Room of the George Howard Building, 3430 Courthouse Dr., Ellicott City. The public is invited to comment at the session. On April 15 and 30, the group will meet at 6 p.m. in the Ellicott Room of the same building.
Sheryl Crow Benefit Tally
The Columbia-based Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults raised more than $200,000 at a benefit concert recently featuring singer Sheryl Crow and others at a Baltimore restaurant. More than 390 people, including Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon, Howard County Executive Ken Ulman and Cancer Fund founder Doug Ulman, now president of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, attended the event.
Funds will be spread among three of the organization's projects: the Young Adult Patient Navigation Program at the Greenebaum Cancer Center at the University of Maryland, the Young Adult Cancer Survivor Activity Group in partnership with the Y of Central Maryland, and the Maryland Community Scholars Award.
Road-Building Projects
Construction of a right-turn lane from northbound McGaw Road onto eastbound Dobbin Road in Columbia will result in closure of the existing right lane of northbound Dobbin Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through June. The project is underway.
The left lane of southbound Snowden River Parkway at Route 108 in Ellicott City will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting on or about Monday and continuing through late May.
